What are the Choices?
Care Options for Prenatal (pregnancy) Care:
Prenatal care can be given using the following care models:
The WHO Essential care is at the core of Nation's "Bundled" cost for your midwifery service, so other prenatal care appointments would be charged separately.
Traditional model schedule:
Every 4 weeks from conception to 28 weeks,
Every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks,
Every week from 36 to 41 weeks
Ongoing reassessments from 40 + weeks
WHO model schedule focuses on specific health achievements and activities for optimum mother and baby care:
Women are scheduled for the following weeks in their pregnancy, allowing more care as indicated or needed
1st visit by week 12*
2nd visit week 20 (ultrasound for baby's gestational age is most valuable before 24 wks)
3rd visit week 26*
4th visit week 30*
5th visit week 34
6th visit week 36*
7th visit week 38
8th visit week 40
Ongoing reassessments from 40 + weeks*
*Indicates WHO's most strategic evaluation points for optimal fetal health
Care Options for Prenatal (pregnancy) Care:
Prenatal care can be given using the following care models:
- World Health Organization's (WHO) Essential Care individual appointments with a minimum of four to eight (4-8) prenatal visits/contacts
- Traditional Schedule of care individual appointments of seven to fourteen (7 - 14) prenatal visits/contacts
- Pregnant Life Circles use group appointments of eight (8) prenatal visits/contacts after intake, primarily using the WHO Care model

Pregnant Life Circles (Free Maternity Care visits in El Paso starting June 1st 2017)
"Pregnant Life Circles" is a model of group prenatal care during educational meetings. This is a fun and interactive way to gain important knowledge and self awareness of your pregnancy, and includes professional essential prenatal care.
Enrollment in Pregnant Life Circles are FREE to Nation's clients
Enrollment in Pregnant Life Circles for other women is conditional to acceptance in the program and may carry a fee

Pregnant Life Circles are set up in locations on the East and West sides of El Paso, TX. These are in English but may be translated according to the needs of participants.

Pregnant Life Circles include:
- Education:
- you learn important topics including pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum and newborn care
- there are individual learning activities as well as group activities
- you learn self assessment activities and the importance of being your baby's "first care provider"
- you learn that you are given rights as an autonomous decision-maker to take responsibility for your care
- you learn what to expect during pregnancy, labor, birth, what your choices are, and how to make better decisions for this important time in your life
- Community atmosphere:
- group discussions are managed through trained facilitators and all participants are expected to have input and questions
- ladies are grouped by similar due dates (so you are placed with folks who are going through some of the same things you are!)
- groups can be arranged according to specific desires (include partners, teens, Bible studies)
- groups have specific agreements and often do not admit new participants after the second meeting
- groups can be 4-8 ladies
- group meetings are at specific timings in pregnancy and are scheduled in two-hour time slots
- Prenatal Care:
- Circles are attended by credentialed healthcare professionals and facilitators
- Ladies are taught how to take B/P and other health assessments, and then a healthcare professional assesses results as well as performing other non-invasive prenatal care.
- Ladies are able to ask questions privately as well as group discussions.
- Any intimate procedures will be done in private prenatal appointments, usually after the circle time.
